Featured in Carolina Home & Garden magazine.
The John C. Campbell Folk School was founded in 1925 to enhance the lives of the local mountain people through education and promotion of their craft tradition and has grown into a destination for craft education and folk traditions. The rural campus, listed on the National Register, includes many early structures and continues to evolve with new facilities.
The Clay Spencer Blacksmith Shop is a new timber-frame expansion of the metalworking shop housed in an original dairy barn. It incorporates two concrete silos at its entrance. The timber frame was cut and erected in a two-week work session involving professional members of the Timber Framers Guild and students.
