Cradle of Forestry in America
Project Type: Historic Preservation
Location: Pisgah National Forest, North Carolina
Now part of Pisgah National Forest and a National Historic Site, the Cradle of Forestry was originally the Biltmore Forest School, founded in 1898 as the first school of forestry in the US. By 2006 the buildings were in need of repair due to deferred maintenance and hurricane damage. The project included repairs to three of the buildings: Hiram King House, Black Forest Lodge, and Cantrell Creek Lodge. Details and specifications were based upon examination of historic photographs and existing conditions.
