Project Type: New Construction
Location: Lake Toxaway, North Carolina
This renovation and addition transformed a dated and uninspired plan into a design meeting the owner’s needs for a warm and comfortable mountain house. The basic form of the house was retained but modified by the addition of a new entrance, foyer and stair hall creating a more open, accommodating flow and character. Finishes throughout the existing house are updated with rich woods and timber. Stone finishes update the existing interior and provide seamless continuity between the old and new.
A two-story addition provides a study and master bedroom suite on the main floor and media and exercise rooms below. The stair hall knits together the existing house and addition and the upper and lower levels, bringing sunlight into the center of the house and lower level.
