Mars Hill College

Project Type: Historic Preservation, Renovation
Location: Mars Hill, North Carolina

Mars Hill College was founded just prior to the Civil War and remains the earliest surviving complex of higher education buildings in Western North Carolina. Funded by a Campus Heritage Grant from the Getty Foundation, Preservation Plans for the eight oldest buildings on campus were developed. The plans provided detailed documentation of each building, including floor plans and photographs, as well as architectural and engineering analysis of existing conditions. Possible continued or new uses were studied to make recommendations for complete rehabilitation of each building, including estimated costs.
