Cashiers-Highlands Humane Society
Harris Architects designed and built a rustic, mountain-style dog house for the Humane Society's Rescue Me Gala to be held on June 16, 2007. The dog house, which sports a poplar bark roof and rhododendron twig walls, will be one of several Petchitecture houses on display and available for purchase at the Rescue Me Gala. The gala will feature a seated gourmet dinner, a performance by members of the Cirque du Soleil, and the Petchitecture auction. More information regarding this event can be obtained from the Cashiers-Highlands Humane Society at 828.349.4714.

Transylvania Community Arts Council
Since 2002, Harris Architects has sponsored Kids' Art Day at the Transylvania Community Arts Council. This annual event allows children to particiapte in a visual arts project decorating the center's yard with colorful art.

Themes have included garden ornaments, a colorful dragon, and fish swimming in a blue "grass" stream. In May 2007, Harris Architects again hosted Kids' Art Day, themed "Self-Portraits." The participants created 4-foot wooden versions of themselves to display on the Arts Center lawn throughout the summer. The children had a chance to learn a bit about self-portraits by looking at ones created by famous artists. Then using non-toxic paints and other decorations on prepared boards that were cut into simple kid silhouettes, they created their self-portraits.

Please visit the Transylvania Community Arts Council website for more information regarding activities and events throughout the year.

Festival of Trees
