A mountain escape with a view of Lake Toxaway for an active family, the design of this house was largely guided by a limited budget dictating a straightforward, efficiently constructed design. The 2,900 SF plan is a rectangle with stacking load-bearing walls. Projecting bays, dormers, and porches add character and interest to the simple form.
Materials include exterior plywood board and batten siding, timber brackets, and stone. These natural materials are detailed to give the house a rich mountain character. Indoor spaces flow to outdoor spaces with a vaulted great room flanked by the kitchen, screened porch, and covered porch creating the core of the house.
The master suite completes the main level with two bedrooms, two baths, and a rec room provided on the lower level. A built-in bunk alcove off the rec room provides extra accommodations for weekend guests.
