Project Type: New Construction
Location: Connestee Falls, Brevard, North Carolina
A blend of influences, this retirement house combines arts and crafts and mountain rustic elements in a clean modern design. Straddling a ridge line, the design, and organization of the house called for ordering a sequence of spaces moving from the entry to the view and main living spaces on the opposite side of the house. The stair hall provides this connection, highlighted by skylights bringing natural light in and through the center of the house. Built-in cabinets create a focus and structure for this central space and display space for the owner’s collection of art pottery.
The Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen and Screened Porch wrap the south and view sides of the house maximizing the interior’s connection to the landscape. Details and materials are clean, cost-effective, and low maintenance.
